"Integrative Medicine and the role of the Reflexologist"
presented by Gretel Spiegel

Gretel SpiegelFor the past three years Gretel has been contracted as a clinical reflexologist in the Integrative Medicine program at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, a designated cancer care hospital in Sydney. Gretel will be talking about her experience as a clinical reflexologist at the Lifehouse, how reflexology is being integrated as a complementary therapy for both inpatients and outpatients and the journey to raise the awareness and acceptance of reflexology by patients and other health care professionals. Gretel’s presentation will encourage reflexologists to create a vision for the future and to be a part of the Integrative Medicine revolution.

"Practical Strategies for detoxification in the modern world"
presented by Trudy Cadoo

Trudy CadooTrudy is an experienced naturopathic clinician with over 15 years’ experience. Her special interests are adrenal fatigue, hormonal balance, digestive health and detoxification. 

Did you know there are two to three thousand new-to-nature chemicals invented and released into the environment every year? These chemicals are found in all aspects of our lives: air, water, soil, food and even the material our furniture and clothing is made of. In her presentation “Practical Strategies for detoxification in the modern world”, Trudy will discuss:

  • Our modern lifestyle and the impact it is having on our health and wellbeing
  • How to effectively detoxify the body to enhance overall health and quality of life
  • Functional testing to help better understand how to support and guide our clients to optimal health

This presentation will bring together current scientific research and traditional knowledge on detoxification, with proven clinical strategies for you to take back to your clinic and share with your clients.

"Integrative Health Approach within a Podiatry Setting: A Clinical Perspective and Case Studies" presented by Carmen Stout

Carmen SMLCarmen is a RAoA professional member and podiatrist in Brisbane. She has a special interest in diabetic foot care and patient education. Podiatrists are seeing a growing number of people with complex health issues, especially diabetes, which can ultimately affect their feet, sensation, circulation and function. Carmen will present her topic – “Integrative Health Approach within a Podiatry Setting: A Clinical Perspective and Case Studies”.

Carmen will discuss diabetes and other common chronic diseases and their conventional treatments. She will include a discussion of the increasing use by the public of complementary therapies to assist with symptoms and health issues which conventional medicine cannot treat. Carmen will present a case study or two which reflect her own practice, incorporating podiatry, foot mobilisation, and reflexology. And discuss “Why should a diabetic see a podiatrist?” and “Why should a diabetic see a reflexologist?”

"Diabetes, Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Management - the precursors to, acute symptoms, and management of these disease states" presented by Leonie McDonald

Leonie McDonaldLeonie has lectured at tertiary institutions in Natural Medicine, Nutrition, Reflexology and Massage. Leonie has an Advanced Diploma in Naturopathy, a Diploma in Remedial Massage and Diploma in Reflexology.

In her presentation Diabetes, Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Management - the precursors to, acute symptoms, and management of these disease states Leonie will discuss:

  • Insights enabling identification of these disease states in both acute and chronic stages
  • The secondary health issues that often co-exist with the above conditions
  • The connection of the above conditions, and how they interrelated with each other
  • Foods to include and foods to avoid for these conditions, and why… foods that exacerbate the above conditions, and foods that facilitate healing of the above conditions, including insight into the basic biochemistry and nutritional reasons of why this occurs
  • Nutritional and organ-related information with relevant Reflexology points to work on.
