About the workshop

Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a deceptively simple technique for activating reflexes to relax muscles and allow them to be lengthened. It can be used to relax hypertonic muscles, deactivate trigger points and to balance muscle tension around a joint. In the hands of a skilled practitioner Muscle Energy Technique can be used to correct postural problems and structural imbalances throughout the body. This technique can easily be incorporated into a reflexology treatment.

In this workshop the theory and practice of MET will be reviewed and for those new to MET, they will learn the basics of how to apply it.

Although MET is relatively simple, successfully implementing it requires a good knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy. The muscles of the lower leg control dorsiflexion & plantarflexion, inversion & eversion and flexion and extension of the toes.

How the muscles work to achieve these movements is not always straight forward so much of the workshop will cover the anatomy and function of the muscle and joints of the lower leg and foot. Once this is understood MET can be effectively applied.

Suitable for all bodywork practitioners!

About the presenter

Philip Boyd is a massage practitioner who specialises in musculoskeletal techniques.

He has had extensive training and experience in the use of Muscle Energy Technique (MET). Philip’s initial training was with Rich Phaigh who developed a highly successful protocol, the Onsen Technique, for the treatment of pain.

Philip was a regular participant at Dr Paul Conneely’s Advanced Musculoskeletal Training seminars. One of his specialties is working with feet and he runs a foot mobilisation workshop.

In more recent years Philip has been taking a keen interest in fascia and has incorporated fascia release work into his practice. He was a Pilates instructor and has trained as a fascial fitness instructor.
